The Academy Award-nominated actor says in his new book, Wrestling With Demons, that a clause in his contract for the Iron Man 2 prevented him from taking part in a one-on-one match with Chris Jericho due to the possibility of injury, which would delay filming.
Rourke says he walked away from WrestleMania "disappointed" due to his limited involvement with the event, which saw him punch Jericho following the WWE star's handicap elimination match with Hall of Famers "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat and Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka. Rourke says he wanted to put his wrestling skills to the test after training for the lead role in The Wrestler.
What are you thoughts on Rourke wanting to be involved in WWE again, do you think its a good idea, or a bad idea?
Screw Rourke, he already got his minute of fame. Jericho should have never put him over, what a waste of space. Give me Shaq another role before this clown.
all I have to say is: FUCK MICKEY ROURKE he is a dried up old wanker. why does he think he could wrestle he didn't even wrestle in the wrestler. there was a stunt double. FUCK Mickey Rourke is retarded!!!
I'm not really sure that the WWE could benefit from him working a match at this point. The Wrestler was a hot movie at the time, the WWE hoped to get something out of his involvement with the promotion while his movie was being talked about for some major awards.
Unless they get him in the midst of another spike in popularity and while he has some major movie promotional stuff going, might not really do much for them.
The match itself won't be great. Jericho is rather good at making other wrestlers look better than they might be in the ring. He's been said to adapt well to cover up any weaknesses other wrestlers may have. But there is only so much he could do to make up for the fact that Rourke has nothing more than some rudimentary wrestling school training and hasn't actually spent months or years working real, live matches before crowds.
Maybe the part of him that liked the attention he got, and the part that drove him to get into actual boxing matches really would have liked the macho sense of accomplishment of having worked some real matches for the biggest American promotion. It certainly would have been a real stroke to his reportedly huge ago having someone put him over huge since that's how celebrity programs generally work out: the celebrity is generally not going to be made a fool of.
At this point, best they can really do with him is a guest host spot. I would not really be interested in seeing him wrestle.

Personally I could go either way on this one, I wouldn't be surprised if WWE would want to bring him in for a storyline, but I don't know if it would benefit WWE at all or if it would just be a waste of money. To me it doesn't really make sense to use him, I mean the Wrestler has had its moment in the spotlight and I don't see a need to bring Rourke in.

Does Rourke have anything to offer the WWE? Is he promoting anything? No. At Wrestlemania he was hot off the back of the wrestlers success. Now he isn't.
Only thing i could see him doing is promoting something as Raw guest host and wrestling Jericho.

see this is why wwe sucks they have gone away from what brought them to the dance, wrestling. they are a wrestling company not an entertainment company if they want to became that go mary with those idiots over at tmz . why the hell are they letting stars guest host raw who don't know a damn thing about the wrestling buissness. and having a midget running around who has no buisness in the ring is a waste of tv time and theres wwe has lost sight of wrestling and will ultimatly go downhill once people wake up and start realising that tna is the best wrestling company and that they have real wrestling who give a hoot if tna has crapy storylines they are the better wrestling company because they have the better wrestlers and in ring compettitors. wrestling not all about the storyline people wrestling is about wrestling not storylines, best production, hottest women wrestling is about wrestling.
Rourke in the WWE is just like giving Jeff Hardy another chance, your going to be upset with the results. No one really gives two shits about Rourke anymore, and since The Wrestler has he even made a movie?
Mikey had his chance, but decided that some awards he wasn't going to win were more important, and now he wants to be put back into the limelight, and is going to use the WWE to give him a bit of a head start. The sad thing about this is, we're probably going to see him Guest hosting in a couple of weeks, and he's going to book Jericho in a match against himself.

Meh, take your ignorance somewhere else. The WWE is and always has been about sports entertainment, regardless of their names, long before you were born and it is going to stay that way.
As for Rourke, just meh. I don't mind him being a Guest Host, but that is where I draw the line. I don't care much for him at all, and certainly don't want to see him doing more than that.

The clue's in the name; World Wrestling Entertainment. Like Zenaku said, it's always been about entertainment. It may suck for (a certain group of) fans seeing Mickey Rourke waste space in the ring but at the end of the day, it's what's best for WWE from a business standpoint. Casual viewers will tune in specifically to see Rourke and they'll get a lot more mainstream attention if he does indeed wrestle.
TNA aren't a better company than WWE and never have been. Their product is slightly different but if any celebrity would ever bother with TNA, I'm sure they'd be doing the same thing.
