Independent Wrestling/MMATalk about all of your favorite Indy and MMA promotions in here!
Eventhough this is co-promoted by Strikeforce & M-1 Global, I'm still going to say watch this event to be held on November 7, 2009 at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, IL. Hey atleast its free on CBS and on a 24 hour delay on Bravo in the UK, shitty deal for youz UKers can I call you Ukers or is that even a word?
whatever..
Remember its first first MMA event on network television since the now-defunct EliteXC promotion broadcasted its final event, EliteXC: Heat, on CBS on October 4, 2008. The event will have a four-fight main card with a broadcasting team of Gus Johnson, Frank Shamrock and Mauro Ranallo, Franks okay, Gus is dumb, Mauro's not so bad anymore, so its time for me to hype this badboy, its basically going to be these four main fights on the show, you know unless some early KOs happen.
Main card
Heavyweight bout: Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers: The undisputed number one Heavyweight in the world, he only needs to be referred by one name, The Last Emperor himself FEDOR!!!! gets into a ring for the first time in his career, to take on a guy who destroyed former UFC HW Champ Andre Arlovski in 15, count it 15 SECOND!! now most will say that Fedor will phone this one in, and take out Brett Rogers early, hey I thought so too, but after I found out Mr Grim has some real striking coaches from the ChuteBox camp with him now, I don't know anymore, this could be real interesting, a win for Rogers will instantly gain him success, credibility and even more important access to the Octagon, a win by Fedor just proves that Dana will continue to lose hair over not having him in the UFC.
Middleweight Championship bout: Jake Shields vs. Jason Miller: Why Jason Miller isn't marketed enough by Strikeforce is stupid, the Guy has a following from his MTV show, Bully Beatdown, and hes no slouch in the cage too, Jake Shields was the for EliteXC WW Champ, he was considered to be the only test for GSP, and will look to re-establish his status in the world rankings.
Light Heavyweight bout: Gegard Mousasi vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou: Mousasi is Fedor jr, Sokoudjou was considered to be the next big thing at LHW, but he was killed by Machida, then beaten by well I forget right now, but he was released and gots some wins under his belt in DREAM, Mousasi will look to take out Sokoudjou fast and early, like he did with Babalu Sobral.
Heavyweight bout: Fabricio Werdum vs. Antonio Silva: I don't really remember much about Silva, other than he was the EliteXC HW champ, Fabricio is a name I'm familiar with, and he is looking for a title shot from the never seen Champ Allistair Overeem, basically this is a winner meets Fedor fight for the belt when Overeem eventually gets stripped of his title, which should've happened months ago, two fights in Japan with no intention of fighting in StrikeForce? how stupid is that?
Remember people this could be the first of many cards on CBS, or it could be the last one ever. So watch it for that, check out Fedor,
lemme hear it WAR FEDOR!!! WAR FEDOR!!! WAR FEDOR!!!!

The only fight on that card that remotely interests me is Fedor. Because I've seen what he can do and it's been what? Over a year since his last fight? Somewhere close to that for sure. Yeah he's had some sparring and grappling matches here and there but this is going to be an actual fight and he has a lit of hype to have to live up to now. Turning down UFC... well his manager person did cause UFC refused to co promote Fedor with M-1 Global for good reason. So now Fedor really has to prove his worth in this fight against Rogers.
But as far as Rogers goes defeating Andrei in 15 seconds... eh. Anderi has been on a slump ever since Fedor broke him with that knock out. It's like once you fight Fedor and he knocks you the "F" out... your career will never be the same. So yeah I'm expecting Fedor to win this fight and win it decisively. Otherwise... some of that mystique may start to disappear for him just like it did for Machida when Shogun hung with him for 5 rounds and just about beat him.

Whoops I meant to say Fedor jumps into the cage for the first, thats kind of a big deal, wonder how I slipped on that, and you still can't discredit Arlovski, yeah he does have a questionable chin, but he still might be one of the premier HWs in the world, its not like he lost in devastating fashion to a journeyman like Tim Sylvia did.

My question here is how will Fedor adapt? We all know he is a great fighter but the cage imo is more punishing then the ring itself. We do not know how Fedor is with his back against the wall. I really do not want to be like. "Oh Fedor wins because of like I know him". I rarely know Rogers. All I know about him is that he is undefeated but has not fought anyone big until now. This should be a good fight and with Mousassi on the card makes it even better! This show is going to be good hopefully. Also, Deezy do you know the time for the event?

My PVR says its at 9:00 est, so thats 6:00 pac, its a weird time, but I guess thats central time, I don't much about Illinois' timezone, sucks for me, since I like to watch it at 7, like the UFC programs, it makes having a few kind of a cry for help, when your drinking a 6, and for the record, the cage is not that punishing tbh, its the weird angles it has that makes it more challenging, in a ring the ropes have some give, the cage does not, so if you get stuck beside the cage, it really sucks, much more than the ring, you need to really know where you are, where not to be, it helps grapplers control a person, thats why wrestlers seem to rule the UFC and Pride was the strikers paradise.
